MAX BARD

Alumni 2023

FEATURED ARTIST MAX BARD

This video shows the creation of, The People Trap. The sculpture is a 30 foot long tunnel made entirely from fallen tree limbs and living plants. The work is installed on the North shore of MA, and is a part of what I call COVID-Gardens. COVID-Gardens is a small parcel of wetlands, threatened by the development of new high end residential homes. The land is technically town land and I work there without the permission of the town.

OLEK

Alumni 2005

FEATURED ARTIST AGATA OLEKSIAK (KNOWN AS OLEK)

Olek's creative philosophy is that "Life and art are inseparable." In 2009, they stated:

I think crochet, the way I create it, is a metaphor for the complexity and interconnectedness of our body and its systems and psychology. The connections are stronger as one fabric as opposed to separate strands, but, if you cut one, the whole thing will fall apart. Relationships are complex and greatly vary situation to situation. They are developmental journeys of growth, and transformation. Time passes, great distances are surpassed and the fabric which individuals are composed of compiles and unravels simultaneously.

As an active supporter of women's rights, sexual equality, and freedom of expression, Olek has used the broad appeal of their work to display their solidarity with those stifled by oppressive laws worldwide. Through their body of work, Olek has always sought to bring color and life, energy, and surprise to the living space.

In this featured video Olek explores hand crocheted sculptures inside virtual reality. Olek is the first artist to ever do this type of work, melding the physicality of intricate crochet work with the other worldly medium of virtual reality. The proper way to experience it is inside a virtual reality platform. For many of you this will be a “first.”
