Aimee Tarasek
Lowville, NY
Residency: January-February 2005
Aimee Tarasek received her BFA in Studio Art, with a concentration in Sculpture, from the College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY. Recently, her work has been exhibited in the Mohawk Hudson Regional, NY (2004), Cooperstown Art Association, NY (2003), at Pratt at Munson-Williams Proctor Institute, NY (2003) and at the College of Saint Rose, NY (2004).
During Aimee's residency, she explored a process of bending thin strips of wood to create massive, voluptuous forms. She also rendered their shadows in organic strokes of charcoal and india ink.
"Natural forms are recurring elements in my work. Working with wood mostly allows for many different processes to be investigated when creating objects. The work I made at Sculpture Space was all physically laminated wood that was constructed using a three-dimensional gesture drawing approach. The free flowing forms invite the viewer to experience both the interior and the exterior of the structures as both are relative to the overall experience of the sculpture. I also created drawings from my sculpture to create a different interpretation of space."
