 Alberto Borea

Lima, Peru

Residency: April-May 2011

About the Artist:

Borea’s work is developed around the difficult and dramatic relationship between cultures and histories; the coexistence of past and present with an approach that can go from the particular to the general and vice versa, he weaves his life experience with those spaces where this experience was developed.

Borea makes a personal mapping exercise with different formats and on various media, around certain places and spaces. Borea expresses himself in a language that combines the international of the contemporary with the personal of his environment, a practice that reveals the overcoming of cultural colonialism and the aura of the exotic linked to vernacular civilizations. The map is a symbol of identity by an individual, people and culture, with the demand of a proper place and at the same level.

His proposal is committed to a conciliatory speech, a mediator in the conflict of coexistence between past and present and between the vernacular and the foreign of his eventual environment, overcoming cultural, ideological, racial, social and economic barriers.
