 Carlos Ferguson

Grinnell, IA
Residency: February – March 2007

At Sculpture Space Carlos Ferguson completed an interactive sculpture he had been working on for several years. The piece is a control panel that allows the viewer to explore a miniature diorama using a robotic car. He also produced a pair of wall-mounted pieces that flash a grid of LEDs slowly and randomly and, in a new direction, he made a mechanically driven wind-up toy — a small airplane that flies overhead as the viewer turns a tiny crank. Ferguson holds a BA from Grinnell College and an MFA from the University of Iowa. He has been the recipient of fellowships from the MacDowell Colony, the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, MA, the Tyrone Guthrie Center in Newbliss, Co. Monaghan, Ireland, the Sacatar Foundation in Itaparica, Brazil, and the UCROSS Foundation, Clearmont, WY. He lives and works in a renovated 1962 Airstream trailer, often parked in Iowa.
