"My work, with its pared-down streamlined contours, tracks a corrupted course of Minimalism. Meaning and intent are still implied in the blunt self-evidence of material and process, but, significantly, the influence of natural sources is also felt. By the choice of wood, with its palpable physicality and ensuing manipulation, and through the slowly-taken-in sensuous qualities of form and colored skin, I hope to create a sense of an analogous corporeal world. These wooden forms, with their elaborately painted surfaces, on the one hand remind us of the colored enamel trim around our apartment bathroom doorway, or of our mother's old kitchen table. On the other hand, an elaborate illusion is set up through the color choices and worked patinas that recall the patterns of animal skins and plumage…"

Romer earned his BA at the Chelsea School of Art in London, England and his MFA in Sculpture from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. He will be exhibiting at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts in the fall of 2005, and exhibited at the Koussevitzky Art Gallery in Pittsfield, Massachusetts (2003), and at the Carson-Masuoka Gallery in Denver, Colorado (2003). He has held the position of Adjunct Instructor in the Sculpture Departments of the Rhode Island School of Design and of the State University of New York, at Purchase. Christopher is currently an Adjunct Instructor and technician in the Sculpture Department of NYU.
