Artist Statement
My work examines the relationships of individuals and their environments through ongoing spatial meditations that attempt to sculpt time and space, directly addressing consciousness and raising questions about subjectivity. I am concerned with the interaction of body and though. I use the body both as subject and medium. Drawing is an essential activity for me, for it is a powerful medium for the expression of both perception and concept. Its directness and meditative qualities allow me to explore ways of interacting with the viewer intensifying the awareness of the surrounding space.
Since 2001 I’ve been drawing a single continuous line, first on paper, then on the wall, to finally reach actual space, making drawing interventions and environments in which I integrate vision, architecture and experience. The single line is a metaphor for life’s trajectory. Each project is just a section of this trajectory, an ongoing one. In a manner that is subtle and yet intense I share with the viewer the essential reality of each lived moment. Time is experienced as a dimension of space and consciousness. Ultimately, I am interested in exploring, blurring and exploiting the old dialectical separations between reality and imagination, visible and invisible, inside and outside, and particularly, self and other.
