"I make precious objects that are intimate in scale. These objects are composed of meticulously crafted and manipulated objects placed in contrast to commercially available components available in the everyday marketplace. The method of creating is antiquated and making by the hand stressed. I question at every moment and rely on creative impulse and synchronistic events to choose subject matter. Each piece is allowed to evolve from conception to materialization. As my work has progressed I find myself grasping for pieces of metal to alter and recontextulize. I have been drawn toward the pursuit of metals not only because of its sculptural tradition, but also because of its powerful relationship to the growth of civilization. "A Safe Passage" is a body of work reflecting on this time in my life that I have been commuting around Central New York. As a native to the region I believe that there are lessons to be learned about this once boom town region and a melancholy story yet to be told." — Kim Carr Valdez

Valdez has recently been included in exhibitions in the Soho20 in New York, the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center in Auburn, NY and the Joe and Emily Lowe Art Gallery at Syracuse University. Kim is currently and adjunct professor at Syracuse University and lives in Brookyn, NY.
